Osteopath & Functional Movement Practitioner
Nick is an Australian trained osteopath with 8 years of varied clinical experience. He graduated from Victoria University's 5 year full-time Bachelor/Masters course in 2011. Having been exposed to manual therapy from an early age at his father's Myotherapy clinic, and having struggled with chronic postural tension-based pain throughout his young sporting life, it seemed natural that Nick would develop an interest in the human body.
Nick has a varied skillset with its roots in structural Osteopathy. He has a strong interest in treating postural tension-based pain, upper limb injuries, cervical/headache pain, and sacroiliac joint pain. Nick takes a holistic approach to patient health care, knowing that the site of pain and symptomatology is often just a compass for the root cause of dysfunction. To this day he is still awed by new examples of the profound interconnectedness of the human body.
Nick is a specialist in treating rock-climbing specific injuries. He has many years of experience helping climbers of all ability levels and ran a climber injury clinic in Melbourne before moving to British Columbia in 2017. In 2015 Nick completed his level 2 MovNat trainer certification due to his interest in functional movement patterns and movement therapy. He continues to use the principles learned during the course to help guide the functional rehabilitation of his patients. Nick also has a background in pilates.
Nick has practiced and locumed in 8 different clinics across three states in Australia and spent 18 months working in a multidisciplinary clinic in Whistler Ski Resort – British Columbia, Canada. This has imbued him with the confidence to understand, adapt to and work with a variety of different people and demographics, from small-town farmland Australia to the adventure sports capital of Whistler Village. Apart from other osteopaths, Nick has been fortunate to work alongside and collaborate with naturopaths, TCM practitioners, physiotherapists, chiropractors, and pilates instructors.
Nick cites working in Whistler village as being one of the most profound learning experiences he's had as an osteopath. The variety and frequency of traumatic injuries he was exposed to taught him so much about dealing with acute injuries and helped him to grow more confident in this field. He also regularly treated a wide range of recreational and elite athletes including triathletes, ironmen/women, skiers/snowboarders, mountain bikers, climbers, gymnasts, yogis, and ultramarathon runners.
Despite his regular exposure to acute and sport injuries, he finds great satisfaction in solving more chronic issues and enjoys being forced to think outside the box.
Areas of interest: Climbing and skiing injuries, neck pain and headaches, upper limb / arm issues, sacroiliac joint pain.
