Western herbal medicine is the practice of healing using naturally occurring plant material including: flowers, leaves, bark and roots. It can be used to treat symptomatically but ideally herbs are used to bring the body back into equilibrium- a state where we maintain health and vitality.
Our practice has a qualified herbalist on hand and we use the highest quality plant extracts in liquid, tablet, tea and powder form to treat various ailments. The benefit of liquid extracts is the ability to customise prescriptions specific to your individual needs.
There are many powerful and effective herbs that can be used as a natural alternative to conventional anti-inflammatories and analgesics. Natural is not necessarily risk free. Therefore it is important to see a qualified practitioner to ensure your safety when using herbs especially when combining with conventional medicines.
We use a range of ‘practitioner only’ herbs and supplements sourced from reputable manufacturers. Some brands we use are:
- Bach Flower remedies
Liquid herbs are sourced from New Zealand’s own Phytomed who make many NZ native herbal extracts, MediHerb and BioCeuticals liquid herbs are also utilised and are both Australian based companies.
All the companies we use aim to source locally grown and ethically sourced herbs that undergo stringent testing for identity, strength, purity and quality. You will have access to bioavailable, supplements many of which are not available over the counter.
Our osteopaths and holistic chiropractor have a special interest in utilising western herbs for musculoskeletal related conditions and stress tension:
- Joint pain
- Muscle tension
- Injury recovery
- Sleep improvement
- Pregnancy / birth / post-natal concerns: we also have a pregnancy kit to take you through all stages of the pre and post-natal period.
We will often treat using manual therapy first then follow through with herbs for any symptoms which require that little bit extra. When blending liquid herbs we often add Bach Flower remedies to balance emotional issues associated with your condition.
